A Letter from 2015

May 11th 2026

Dear 2015 You,

Your website looks amazing. You spent three months getting it right and it's finally live. The colours, the fonts, the little animated banner - perfect.

For now, it will do its job all by itself. People will search, Google will find you, and the right clients will land on your doorstep. Honestly it's quite magical. Enjoy it.

But listen! and I say this with love, it won't always be this simple.

Right now we're all finding our feet online. It's exciting and a bit wild and mostly good. But you know what humans are like. Someone will figure out how to game it, and then someone else will, and before long the whole thing will need rethinking. Google will have to find new ways to tell the genuine ones from the ones just playing the system. The rules will change. The way people search will change. The way we all use technology will change in ways we can't quite imagine yet.

When that happens, and it will -don't get stuck. Don't keep doing things the 2015 way because it used to work. Move with it.

The ones who thrive will be the ones who stayed curious and kept showing up.

That letter feels relevant right now. Not because things are broken, but because we're in one of those moments where the ground is shifting again, and it's worth naming it.

The businesses I see doing well aren't necessarily the ones with the biggest budgets or the most polished feeds. They're the ones who kept showing up. Who published something when nobody was watching. Who treated their website like a living thing rather than a trophy.

Showing up online in 2026 looks like: A blog that gets updated. A newsletter that goes out. A Google profile that actually reflects your business. Small, consistent actions that compound slowly and then suddenly.

None of it is glamorous. All of it works.

In case you needed proof that i’m a badass website fixer-upper- Here's what's actually been landing on my desk this month.

A client with an 88% bounce rate. Alarming on the surface. But when you look at the data properly, the people who were arriving were spending over two minutes on her services and booking pages. That's not a broken website. That's a website with no traffic being sent to it. The fix wasn't a redesign — it was a blog and a content strategy.

A client who'd been paying a developer a monthly retainer for years and couldn't access her own website. She thought she had access. She had access to the hosting panel — which is like thinking you can run your house because you have a key to the electricity meter cupboard. We're working on getting the keys back. It happens more than you'd think, and it makes me quietly furious every time.

And myself, at 2am, having sat down to reply to one email and resurfaced having fixed four things on my website I'd been quietly avoiding. I am, without question, my own worst client.

None of these are unusual. All of them are fixable.

⭐️ SQUARESPACE UPDATE -WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Squarespace overhauled its plans at the start of 2026. The old Personal, Business and Commerce tiers are gone. There are now four plans: Basic, Core, Plus and Advanced.

Most of my clients are on Core, which at £23 a month (billed annually) is the sweet spot for small businesses. It gives you everything you actually need including analytics, integrations and basic selling tools.

The one thing I want you to notice: always pay annually. Monthly billing costs around 30% more for exactly the same product. That is a meaningful saving over a year for no extra benefit at all.
