September, A good time to start a new adventure…

grafitti covering door, text reads- never stop dreaming...

If you're planning to start a business, you should know that September is a good time to make that start.

apparently, people get far more work accomplished during autumn than any other season.

I often get really busy with enquiries around this time, and as I am already taking on new Squarespace website clients, I thought I would take this time to inspire anyone out there thinking about making a fresh start or renewing their existing website, now is a good time!

motivational quote - the secret to getting ahead is getting started

If you are going to be self-employed for the first time it can be scary. I remember starting my business very clearly even though it was 8 years ago. I had been working freelance for a national newspaper and had a very comfortable arrangement, that bored the pants off me. I also knew it wasn’t going to last. I enrolled in night school and retrained myself in Adobe Indesign and Adobe Illustrator. This led me to re-ignite my graphic design career. Slowly it has evolved into what it is today but that first step is scary.

I think creatives find it especially difficult as we are really opening up our souls to the world, ‘Will my work be good enough’ is a common fear. I convinced myself to go for it by reminding myself that “I may not be perfect but I’m a lot better than a lot of crap out there” and that thought got me here today. I’ve learned a lot and I’ve stuck to it. I like to think that I’m providing a great service for my clients, I keep them informed and answer questions, my goal is still to empower the client to take control of their own content, but I’m also very happy to help support them with content and technical advice along the way. I use my design skills to make everything look great and combine this with everything I have learned about the technical side of websites, to ensure the website looks good and works properly.

I have recently taken on a new personal project partly because I want to but also because I want to help my clients do the same thing so I’d like to understand better how it works. It involves selling my own artwork, in the form of Photography, and I have to call myself a ‘Fine Art Photographer’ It’s jarring, mostly because I know some awesome fine art photographers and I’m worried about what they will think if I call myself that. But I’m going to do it anyway. Let’s see what happens!

If you would like to contact me about making the first steps towards selling your work on your own website, I will gladly talk you through the process. I have a few packages here and can also help with social media support.

It’s actually all very exciting, and I look forward to sharing my work with you soon.

I have created some inspirational quotes for this blog and made them downloadable, feel free to use them on your social media, mention @jaggerdesigncreative
