HOW writing blogs and Newsletters is better for your business than just posting on Instagram.

Why is blogging better than Instagram?

Here’s an explanation of my favourite marketing method to help you understand why I keep banging on about blogging! You will need of course to collect subscribers if you are going to write a blog. Growing this subscribers list will be a continued effort and one of your calls to action on your supporting social media posts and at the bottom of every post! Squarespace has a Marketing platform that you can subscribe to for £4 a month, allowing you to send blogs out as emails to your subscribers and send out Newsletters each month. If you wish to try it is free for the first 3 campaigns. You can blog without collecting subscribers, it will still encourage Google, but if you are building a community, I would say it’s vital.

  1. Instagram is volatile. Your account can be hacked, you can be randomly shadow banned, you are a slave to their algorithm, and there’s no guarantee that your followers are seeing your content.

With a blog that has subscribers, that have asked to be sent your content you know that your audience is genuine. You can turn on comments for your blog so you can continue the conversation and encourage meaningful comments. Your blog and website with Squarespace are less likely to be infiltrated, and there’s no worry about being shadow banned for using a wrong hashtag like # bbc (easily done!) Also If you send your blog out as an email to your subscribers you know they will receive it, Instagram has so many suggested posts filling up our feeds that unless we choose to see content from our followers, we see mostly post suggested by Instagram based on our viewing habits and google searches - or conversations with friends -as they do listen! ( I was telling my husband to shave yesterday and now have loads of suggested posts about men shaving)

If you write a blog, you can then create one week's worth of content for social media to promote that blog, drive traffic to your website and give Google lots of encouragement that your fresh, original content is interesting and useful, and in turn, Google will push you up the rankings and show your website to more viewers.

  2. You could be pushing content from your blog to your social media.

When you publish a blog on Squarespace, you can automatically publish a link to the blog on Facebook, Twitter, Google Business, Linked In and others. This will encourage readers on those platforms to visit your blog on your website. If your blog has links to your products and services or other interesting content they should then spend some time moving around your website. You might make a sale, or encourage an enquiry.

  3. Pushing your blog to Google Business will help google see your account as active and it will push you up the rankings if you maintain the action weekly.

I have decided to spend Mondays marketing my own business, so have been blogging regularly now for a month since my website relaunch at the start of July. I have a 495% increase in traffic and have around 25 views every time I post a new blog. So while it is early days and I don’t think Google has reindexed my site yet, I am seeing traffic improvements.

  4. Writing Newsletters Helps to Support your ‘Community’

Writing blogs, and building a social media presence, are about you building a platform for yourself and therefore your readers become your community. Writing a newsletter is a great way to build and support your community. It may be hard to think about what to include but once you have done it a few times it gets easier! I always try to think about including events that are coming up over the next month for a newsletter, it builds excitement, and hopefully, readers will think that the content will be useful to them and help them to make their own improvements and advancements.

  5. Optimising blogs will help customers find you on a Search Engine.

Search Engines like Google or Bing Have lots more users than any social platform and it’s primarily where people go to search for something they need. So spend your time here, making sure you will be found in a search. I offer a Search Engine Optimisation service where I can check your settings on your Squarespace website and undertake some research into the most successful search terms for you. And then apply them across the website. Using blogs to host these search terms will optimise your keyword strategy. Plus Google loves original, fresh content and if it sees that you are a voice of authority in your field (your blogs are getting traffic and engagement) you will be pushed up the rankings.

Talk to me today about how I can support you with marketing yourself with a blog and on social media, my monthly packages start at £250. This could include an optimised blog, a newsletter sent out to your subscribers and 6-8 branded Instagram posts and stories to promote this content.
